Video Wall Calculator
Enter the pixel pitch and wall size to see viewing distances and native resolution. Or start from your closest viewer and find the pitch you actually need.
Rules of thumb: minimum distance ≈ 1 m per mm of pitch, optimal ≈ 2 m per mm, and pixel structure becomes invisible to normal vision at ≈ 3.4 m per mm. Ambient light, content, and brightness all move the answer, which is what a real design accounts for.
What is pixel pitch?
Pixel pitch is the distance in millimeters from the center of one LED pixel to the center of the next. A smaller pitch means more pixels per square foot, a sharper image up close, and a higher cost. A 1.5 mm wall is fine-pitch; a 4 mm wall suits large spaces where nobody stands close.
How close can people stand to an LED wall?
A common design rule of thumb puts the minimum comfortable viewing distance in meters at roughly the pixel pitch in millimeters, with about twice that as the sweet spot. At roughly 3.4 meters per millimeter of pitch, a viewer with normal vision can no longer resolve individual pixels at all.
Does this replace a design?
No. Brightness, ambient light, content, structure, power, cooling, processing, and service access all shape a real video wall. This calculator gets the sizing conversation started; the design phase resolves the rest.
